Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly known as the place where she was born. But she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners weren't able to dance with her. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 foot 1 inches tall. When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school that led her in the right direction. The teacher encouraged her to take part in an audition in the school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the annual school production. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Since then, she's appeared performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the Season 1 cast of the show and only seen occasionally was the only Canadian.
